WordPress core, themes, and plugins can add shortcuts and menus to the Admin Bar. On websites with many plugins, the toolbar can become crowded with items that clients or other users rarely need.

Admin Bar Cleaner lets you reduce that clutter and keep the most useful shortcuts available.

What Is the WordPress Admin Bar?

The WordPress Admin Bar, also called the Toolbar, appears at the top of the screen for logged-in users.

Depending on the website and the current user, it may contain items such as:

  • WordPress shortcuts.
  • Site navigation.
  • Comments.
  • New content shortcuts.
  • User account controls.
  • Plugin shortcuts.
  • Theme-specific tools.
  • SEO tools.
  • Cache controls.
  • Other plugin actions.

The exact contents depend on the website, installed plugins, theme, and current user's permissions.

How Admin Bar Cleaner Works

AUC detects supported items registered in the WordPress Admin Bar and makes them available for configuration.

You can hide unnecessary items for users who match your Audience settings.

Parent and Child Items

  • Change their toolbar structure between versions.

Because of this, Admin Bar Cleaner cannot guarantee control over every custom toolbar element created by every plugin.

After configuring third-party items, test the affected user experience.

After Installing New Plugins

A newly installed or activated plugin may add new items to the Admin Bar.

After making significant changes to your WordPress installation:

  1. Review the Admin Bar.
  2. Open Admin Bar Cleaner.
  3. Check for newly detected items.

Limitations

It does not:

  • Modify WordPress roles or capabilities.
  • Restrict access to the destination of a hidden item.
  • Modify the underlying plugin or feature.
  • Guarantee control over toolbar elements rendered outside the standard WordPress toolbar system.
